The Former President's Actions Constitute a Threat to Civilized Society.

The internal and external initiatives – ranging from the effort to overturn the election in the past to current incursions and statements – undermine not only domestic and international law. However, the issue goes deeper.

These actions endanger the very concept of what we mean by.

The ethical foundation of any advanced culture is to forestall the more powerful from harming and taking advantage of the weaker. Otherwise, we risk being permanently immersed in a brutish war where might makes right could survive.

This ideal is central of America’s founding documents. It is equally the heart of the postwar international order championed by the United States, built on collective action, popular sovereignty, fundamental freedoms, and the supremacy of law.

But, it is a fragile principle, frequently ignored by those who seek to abuse their influence. Maintaining it necessitates that the influential have the moral fortitude to avoid seeking short-term wins, and that society ensure they answer for their actions should they falter.

Absolute power does not equal right. It leads to uncertainty, chaos, and war.

Whenever individuals, companies, or nations that are richer and more powerful prey upon those that are weaker, the structure of civilization unravels. Should such behavior are allowed to continue, the structure collapses. Without intervention, the world can descend into chaos and war. We have seen this pattern previously.

Today, we live in a global community marked by extreme inequality. Authority and resources are more concentrated than in modern history. This creates conditions for the powerful to take advantage of the weaker because they perceive themselves as untouchable.

The resources of a small group of billionaires is staggering. The influence of major corporations in technology, energy, and aerospace covers a vast portion of the world. AI is could centralize wealth and power further. The offensive capability of the major powers is unmatched in human history.

Enabled by political allies and a sympathetic judicial body, the highest office has been turned into the most powerful and unaccountable entity of government in recent memory.

Put it all together and you grasp the danger.

An unbroken thread ties previous transgressions to current menaces. Both were founded upon the arrogance of invincibility.

You see parallel dynamics in international affairs: in territorial invasions, in expansive ambitions, and in the global depredation by powerful corporate entities.

Yet, raw power does not establish right. It produces instability, upheaval, and war.

Historical evidence demonstrates that laws and norms to constrain the powerful also safeguard them. Absent these limits, their relentless pursuit for more power and wealth eventually lead to their downfall – and with them their corporations, nations, or empires. And pave the way for global conflict.

This blatant contempt for legal order will plague America and the global community – and indeed a rules-based order – for the foreseeable future.
