A Ton of Anime News Dropped Over the Festive Season
The Yuletide season provide a wealth of pastimes much better than catching up on the updates: opening presents, indulging in delicious food, and using patience techniques to avoid snapping at family members. Hopefully you managed to do all these things and more. However, the world of entertainment never sleeps, and this is notably true for the realm of anime. Numerous exciting developments came out during the festive period, and should you missed a few, here is a roundup of the biggest bits.
One-Punch Man Season 3 Is Set to Continue (Come 2027)
Truly the biggest piece of news, the notorious disaster that was season 3 of One-Punch Man proved insufficient to halt more episodes. The show will come back with a subsequent part in 2027—such a distant date they might as well have called it season 4. Adding to the surprise, the studio J.C. Staff will continue to be in charge. At least this time, director Shinpei Nagai is set to direct from the beginning, which could be taken as a good sign. But, the key visual for the continuation is the same image the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou facing different directions. This makes me think that, nowadays, they could be teasing the fans.
Ruri Dragon Is Set to Be the First Shonen Jump Anime By Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has forged a standing for being an elite animation studio, making its mark not just for the superb artistry of its productions but for the ethical practices of its employees—a rarity in the industry. Curiously, until now, it had not produced an anime based on a manga from Shonen Jump, perhaps the most iconic magazine in the industry. Ruri Dragon will change that, and what a excellent choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo gained widespread acclaim when it launched in 2022 after just a few chapters, but then went into a two-year hiatus due to the author's health issues. When it returned with a reduced workload, the series showed it still retained the fans' affection and positive sentiment, and now fans are ecstatic about the upcoming KyoAni adaptation.
The Kingdom Series Season 6 Will Get a Sequel In Production
Kingdom is the best-selling, epic Shueisha manga that is other than One Piece. If you've never heard of it before, it's because it only recently got an English localization, but the anime has been airing for years, and its sixth season was yet another excellent entry. It turns out that was just the initial batch, because a "sequel" has been revealed as in development, and it will very likely air in 2026.
Science Saru Is Bringing A Witch in Mongolia To Anime
Another studio renowned for the excellent quality of its work, Science Saru has delivered hit shows of the ilk of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, most recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be producing the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, based on the true story of Fatima, an prominent woman and thinker in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Judging from the trailer, the anime named Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a highly unique and fascinating visual style, which evokes Ranking of Kings. Debuting in July 2026, this one will without a doubt be on my list of anticipated shows.
Tougen Anki Is Set to Continue With a Season Two
Right after the airing of the final episode of the first season, it was confirmed that Tougen Anki will be securing a sequel. Adapted from the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki is based on the manga by Yura Urushibara. The second season of the anime will cover the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a specific air date has yet to be revealed.
